On Saturdays we still provide homework assistance, and classes in SAT Preparation, robotics, art, music (theory and practical), and performance rehearsal (using enhanced social distancing protocols.) We’re able to reach students online, through our ONE-ON-ONE tutoring programs. We feel, and many parents agree, that despite the heroic efforts of school teachers and their dedicated colleagues in the education community, students are finding it harder to maintain or even approach grade level proficiency. The ONE-ON-ONE approach encourages socially isolated students to engage more fully with their instructors. They are able to complete their homework assignments, and tackle difficult materials with the focused attention of dedicated tutors.
Our online curriculum also features cooking classes (for adults and students, as the sessions feature recipes and presentations by students as well as their parents); Ask-the-Doctor programs featuring live appearances by doctors to answer questions and address health issues facing families in this COVID-19 era; and ESOL courses for adults.
Also, we’re proud to announce that, through the efforts of our staff, volunteers, donors, supporters and anonymous givers, we were able to distribute over 16 tons of food and thousands of meals to food insecure families this past spring and summer.
It was a labor of love and care for our less fortunate neighbors, and helped to momentarily mitigate some of the worst impacts of the novel coronavirus.
Please help CAFE continue to be a positive force in our communities and remember to donate to our programs during the upcoming holiday season. You can make a great start to boost our tutors and their deserving students on Tuesday, December 1, by contributing on Global Giving Tuesday Day!
