Our Orchestras
The Cultural Academy For Excellence boasts several award-winning Steel Orchestras. They have performed throughout the United States and have toured internationally, including Senegal and Canada.
The Positive Vibrations Youth Steel Orchestra (PVYSO) has been sharing its melodies nationally and internationally since 1996. The orchestra was started in the suburban basement of founder Lorna Green with 14 students and some steelpans. At the end of two weeks the group had completed the “Star Spangled Banner” and performed the piece for the Olympic torch ceremony passing through Largo, MD. Within a year the group relocated to Hyattsville, MD and the rest is history. Learn more
The PanTones are a committed group of steel pan enthusiasts who come together each week to share and learn music. Under the direction of Mr. Adam Grisé, this adult steel ensemble practices and performs a variety of repertoire ranging from Calypso Rose to Coldplay! They are also a superb outreach and support arm of CAFE, many serving as tutors, fund-raisers, and volunteers in every capacity!
